It didn’t begin to show until a month after the crash.
Larry Carr had everything in life that a man could desire. He was the best diamond expert in town and that meant he had a successful career. He was going to get married to the love of his life, Judy. And he had a great social life. But it’s said Man proposes and God disposes and for Larry Carr it turns out to be accident that shatters his perfect life. Judy dies in the crash and Larry goes into depression.
Larry tries to drown his sorrows in work but fails miserably. His friend and employer then forces him to see a high end psychiatrist who in turn tells him that he needs a change of scene where he can work with people whose suffering is much greater than him. Little does the psychiatrist knows that the place that Larry is being sent to will act as a stimuli to uncover a dark part of Larry. In addition to that he comes in contact with a beautiful siren name Reha Morgan who is recently out of prison. Larry is infatuated with her and would do everything to be with her-even commit unspeakable crimes.
Will Larry be able to reign these dark desires? What lies in store for Larry on this path? You’ll have to read this novel for getting answers to these questions.
I have always loved novels by Mr James Hadley chase. His story lines are taut and the action in them never subsides.I should tell you at the starting that this is fully noir book. The characters are dark who commit very despicable crimes. If you are looking for a good guy then you’ll hardly find it here.
But saying this, I must say if you are yearning for a yarn that full of action then James Hadley Chase has done a wonderful work. The transformation of Larry from a yuppie to an hard ass and then to someone who’s willing to do the crime for the sake of pleasure makes for a gripping read.
In this journey he comes across very interesting characters who either persuade his desires or dissuade him from going into these dark paths. What he does finally is his own choice and he gets paid for it?
‘Have a change of scene’ is an entertaining read from start to end. The reader will find it difficult to stop once he’s started the book and most probably will finish the book in a single sitting.
If you like noir in literature then you’ll love it.
