Flash Frost by Patrick Rutigliano
Flash Frost by Patrick Rutigliano

First Sentence:
Leslie Keller’s run had intoxicated her on fading sunshine and a May breeze for the last hour.

Leslie Keller was out for a jog. It was a May evening and weather was supposed to be nice. She had already planned out her evening. Chris and her were going out for dinner.

But then suddenly cold winds started blowing. The sudden change of temperature was confusing and then the storm started.

But was not your normal storm. Leslie thought there was something in that storm which was out to get humans.

Was there really someone?

Or it was just the figment of Leslie’s hyper imaginative brain?

Flash Frost is a short story by Patrick Rutigliano. This short story is based in a world described in a novel, named Wind Chill, which is written by the writer himself.

I liked reading the story. It’s taut. The tension is maintained throughout the story. As a reader i was concerned about Leslie and how she tackles the situation. She has some issues with cold, due to her past experiences, and we get to know about it as the story progresses. This makes it more interesting since we she reacts differently to the weather than your normal guy.

There are two characters in the story but majority of story is about Leslie.

The only thing i didn’t like is that it ends very ambiguously. We know there may be something wrong where it ends but we don’t know what. Also, there are couple of questions that are left unanswered. We can just guess about them. This leaves you a small bit unsatisfied.

But then, this story was supposed to be a teaser for Wind Chill novel and it fulfils it’s purpose. It makes you interested in the novel.

I’ll definitely check that out. I want to know what was there in the storm and what could it do.

An entertaining story with an ambiguous end that keeps you hooked  till the end is how i would describe flash frost.
