First Sentence:
‘Thinner,’ the old Gypsy man with the rotting nose whispers to William Halleck as Halleck and his wife, Heidi, come out of the courthouse.
William J Halleck, Billy to his friends, was living the fabled American life. He had a house, a beautiful wife and kid and a fairly peaceful life. He was overweight but was living a happy life.
But this all changed when he accidentally hits an old gypsy woman with his car. The woman dies but the court clears him of all the charges.
He now wanted to forget all this but a single word, Thinner, keeps intruding his thoughts.
This was the word that the gypsy man had said when Billy with his wife was coming out court.
This word, the curse, has lodged inside his mind and the fact that Billy is shedding those extra pounds fast is not helping the matter.
Is it a curse or psychological reaction? How will Billy confront it and how his life will be affected by it?

Thinner was written by Stephen King as Richard Bachman. It is the second time i’m reading this novel, the first time was in 2010, and i loved every page of it.
The story was very gripping and held my interest till the end. The story moves with a fast pace and has a taut story line. Only Stephen King can write such an engaging novel about the ‘curse’ and it’s repercussions.
I’ve read many Richard Bachman books and i have noticed that they don’t have that rambling quality that Stephen King’s books have been associated with. This one also fits the bill.
I loved the story and would recommend that if you haven’t read it then you should read it. If you’ve read it then tell me how you felt about it in the comments section.
