The Mugger is the second novel in the 87th Precinct series. The series revolves around cops of 87th precinct and the crimes they solve. This novel is about ‘The Mugger’. A mugger has been attacking woman and looting them. He ends his loot by a phrase ‘Clifford, thanks you madam’. The cops at 87th Precinct are perplexed about him.
Meanwhile patrolman Bert Kling has been recovering from a gunshot wound in a hospital and is getting bored of being a patient. It’s here that his friend Peter Bell comes to visit him and asks him to talk to his sister in law. Some day after the talk Jeanie Paige is found murdered. Everyone thinks the Mugger has gone overboard this time. Bert is now after him as he feels responsible for Jeanie. Will this case be solved? Will mugger be found? Read the book to find out.

It was an entertaining albeit a very thin book. It took me two sittings to finish it. I kept guessing till the end who the murderer was and that made me turn the pages. Although i felt the way Mugger was arrested was a little anticlimactic. But i’ll be surely reading other books in the series. If you like police procedural books than you can give it a go, as it has ample amount of details about them.
