My Views:
The book Case was an entertaining read for me.  I haven’t read John Corey novels so this was the first time i was meeting him. And i must say i liked him. He’s funny and his commentary during the investigation makes it more fun to read. There are times  it’s difficult to predict when he’s being serious and when he’s being light-hearted.

Not every uniformed cop, wants to be a detective, but most of them have good instincts and experience, and a lot of cases have been solved or advance because of the cop who first came on the scene. Rourke seemed smart, and he had a suspicious nature. I wouldn’t want to be Mrs Rourke.

As far as the mystery aspect of the book is concerned it’s a simple mystery. It’s not very complicated. It is more of a procedural story and it’s more fun to see how Corey handles it. You get to see how he begins the investigation and then how he reaches his final decision. Since it’s a simple mystery so he manages to solve it easily but that too involves manipulation of the people involved and this keeps you interested till the end.

If you are looking for a short mystery to read then i think you’d find it very satisfying. You can get it finished in single sitting.

Some lines from the book:

I needed to make a determination here and i needed to do it in a relatively short amount of time. I mean, if you cry wolf and there is no wolf, you look like an idiot. Or worse you look like a guy who has no regard for the budget. But if say ‘accident’, and it turns out later that it was something else, you got some explaining to do.

Most accidents, i’m convinced, are God’s way of getting rid of stupid people. Or if you belive in Darwinism, you wonder why there are any stupid people left in the world. Well, i guess they can reproduce before they remove themselves from the gene pool.

And why. If you get the why, you usually get the who. As i have discovered in this business, when motive and opportunity coalesce, you get a crime. And when the crime is made yo look like an accident, you look for someone close to the victim.

Right, if men listened to their wives, the’d live longer and better lives. But married men, I think, have a death wish. That’s why they die before their wives. They want to.

Well, aside from money, you have what i call dick crimes. Dicks get you in trouble.

I wanted to give him an enduring piece of advice, some wisdom that would guide him in the future. I though of several things, then finally said to him, “Never have sex with a woman who has more problems that you do.”

I would be looking forward to reading John Corey novels. In fact i have brought the first one in the series and am excited to read it.
