A Christmas Carol is a novella of Charles Dickens. A classic in its own, its a wonderful story about the spirit of Christmas and human companionship is much more important than the material goods.

It tells story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a businessman. He is an odious person whom pretty much every one dislikes and who doesn’t gives a rat’s ass about what people think of him. The only thing important to him is to make more profit.

It’s Christmas time and this is the season when Ebenezer Scrooge’s foul mood reaches its peak in all the year. Little does he knows that this year’s Christmas is going to teach him a lesson that he seems to have forgotten.

I loved the book and the concept of three ghosts for the three different stages of life was awesome. Although the only thing that bugged me the philosophy of doing good in this life. It showed  if one is not good in life he’ll have to bear lots of horrible things in his after life. I think if we are good only because we’ll have a nice afterlife than the whole thing about being good stands moot. Apart from that book was a wonderful read. Would i recommend it to you??Yeah, why not. Give it a go.

Some of the quotes from the book:

Old Marley was as dead as a doornail.
Mind! I don’t mean to say that I know, of my own knowledge, what there is particularly dead about a door-nail. I might have been inclined, myself, to regard a coffin-nail as the deadest piece of ironmongery in the trade. But the wisdom of our ancestors is in the simile; and my unhallowed hands shall not disturb it, or the Country’s done for. You will therefore permit me to repeat, emphatically, that Marley was as dead as a door-nail.

Scrooge was his sole executor, his sole administrator, his sole assign, his sole residuary legatee, his sole friend, and sole mourner.

The heaviest rain, and snow, and hail, and sleet, could boast of the advantage over him in only one respect. They often “came down” handsomely, and Scrooge never did.
He stopped at the outer door to bestow the greetings of the season on the clerk, who, cold as he was, was warmer than Scrooge; for he returned them cordially.
It is a fair, even-handed, noble adjustment of things, that while there is infection in disease and sorrow, there is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humour.
I wear the chain I forged in life….I made it link by link, and yard by yard; I girded it on of my own free will, and of my own free will I wore it.
No space of regret can make amends for one life’s opportunity misused.

I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach
