First Sentence:
When John Dortmunder, a free man, not even on parole, walked into the OJ Bar & Grill on Amsterdam Avenue that Friday night in July, just before ten o’clock, the regulars were discussing the afterlife.

John Dortmunder has been going to OJ bar and grill from as long as he remembers. The place has served him not only liquor but a place to meet his crew and discuss the plans for his ‘prospects’. So when he goes there for a drink and a meeting he finds something shady is going on there.
Meanwhile, Arnie Albright (a fence) has returned from club med(where his family had placed him to cure his obnoxious behaviour) and asks Dortmunder to meet him to discuss a new opportunity.
Arnie tells him about a multi millionaire called Preston fareweather who has been living in club med from past three years and who has an apartment in New york which could be easily hit. He tells him that the apartment would contain millions of dollars of arts and antiques.
Dortmunder loves the idea and gathers the crew to meet at OJ, only to discover that they are not given permission to use the back room in the bar. He learns that the bar is occupied by people from the mob and they plan to put OJ to ground.

Outraged that his meeting place is being closed Dortmunder decides to save it before cashing the new opportunity that has arisen.
Will Dortmunder be able to save OJ?And how will he proceed to hit  Preston fareweather’s apartment? Where will they plan their heist?
Read the book to find out.

Dortmunder is a thief who always meticulously plans his heists and more often than not gets into situations that are funny(although not for him). I learned about Dortmunder when i read a few stories featuring this character. and so i wanted to read this series.

The book ‘Watch your back’ is 13th novel in the series. It’s a good read. There are multiple plot lines to the story which make the book a delight to read. You know the plot lines will eventually converge and you keep waiting to see how it will end up for the characters.

I liked reading the book. The story is taut and fast paced. It had some funny parts but the humor quotient was not that great as advertised. I guess i had very high expectation of it.
If you’ll go into it without reading the reviews and without having any expectation then you’ll surely not regret reading this caper of Dortmunder.
