The oath of the Vayuputras is the third and last book in the Shiva Trilogy.  The story progresses ahead from the point where it ended in The Secret of Nagas.

Shiva has finally known the Secret of Nagas. And this has sent his mind reeling and raised doubts on friendship and companionship. What was the secret?? To know that you’ll have to read the ‘The secret of the Nagas’.

In the previous book Shiva was able to find the evil that has been corrupting the Indian way of life and whose destruction he’ll have to orchestrate in order to revive the decaying society. This books sees him striving for destroying this evil. But its easier said than done.

What difficulties will fall in his path???Would Shiva be able to destroy the evil??What sacrifices would he have to pay for this??And how this war would affect the Neelkanth and other people??
You’ll have to read the book for finding the answers to the questions.

Now about the book. It was an okay read. I would not say that it was exceptional but it was not bad either.  So the good points . The portrayal of Sati and Kartik has been great through out the series and they certainly shine in this book. The transformation of Kartik has been tremendous.  He has turned out to be ruthless and pragmatic leader who doesn’t gives into his emotions. A kind of  a killing machine that generates awe and fear from his soldiers.  As i have said in reviews of my earlier books. I absolutely adore Sati’s portrayal by Amish. She is brave and a great leader. There were some moments when she doubted herself and felt responsible for events that were not under control but that’s also a mark of character. In few word i’m in awe of her.

Now the cons of the book. The book lacks the pace of the previous books in the series. The protagonist in the story Shiva has  no action packed scenes for him. In this case the action was the domain of mainly Kartik and Sati.  Also the author tries to connect various stories and that was boring. He tried to give logical reasons for various religious monuments like 51 shakti temples, why Ganesh is called Sankatmochan and Kartik , the war lord. How the lamas came into being ??How various cities were named like Tripura and Manipur. This only increased the length of the book. I think he could have left it alone. It feel like he was trying too hard to give logical explanations for all the religious myths.

In the end i think it was an okay book but it could have been better if he could have made this book a fast read, as that was the USP of his books.
