The last word to ever leave their lips is “please”.
Please.., that’s what his victims say to him. But they don’t want him to leave them. Instead they beg him to kill them because when’s he’s done with them it’s the only thing they want- death. He’s a man in a dog mask who kidnaps women and tries to turn them into cats.
Julie is a waitress who works in a bar and grill restaurant called the Otter. She thinks she’s been dealt a short hand in life. She drinks and does drugs. Life is not worth living for her so she is basically digging her own grave in this shit hole of a town.
But now she has attracted someone’s attention. Somebody who thinks she could really be a very nice pussy cat.
This is Fergus Falls. It’s your typical american small town with your typical american lives and typical small town secrets.

Please.. is a serial killer novel but without a detective chasing after the serial killer. It happens in a small town called Fergus falls and revolves around three characters- the killer, the victim(Julie) and a high school teacher(Tamara). As a reader we get the glimpse of lives of each of the characters.
Julie has had a sad life and has come to believe that she doesn’t deserve something better. She’s in a bad relationship, in a town where she doesn’t want to live and doing a job she doesn’t wants to do. It seems that she’s punishing herself for something and as i got to know more about her i could feel for her. I could understand where she was coming from.
The killer is also some one who was once abused by his own mother and has a reason for doing what he’s doing. What he does is wrong but there are points when one can feel some kind of pity about him.
But it’s Tamara’s character that i hated. She hates everyone and basically uses everyone to fulfil her desires. She has married a guy whom she clearly despises. She works as a high school teacher but despises her students especially the ones she thinks are bright or more like her. I hated how she was acting towards Maddy. She should be a mentor but is anything like that. There are other reasons for me hating her but that may give out the story so i would not go into them. It would be better if you would discover it for yourself.
The rest of the characters are okay and do the job for which they were created. They fit the bill perfectly.
The story has gore and there are few graphic descriptions which could make you queasy if you are easily affected by it. I felt really uncomfortable reading the one where the killer transforms the woman into a cat. It was so vivid. But if you are into gore then i think you would enjoy it. Personally, i have no problem with gore as long as it serves the story. Gore for the sake of gore seems pointless to me. As far as this story is concerned the gore complements it. The story has an element of mystery in and there is thrill in it. But, i didn’t like the way the it ended for the killer. It could have handled in a more interesting way which could have made the story more thrilling. It left me wanting for more as i clearly was not expecting that.
I liked the ending of the story though. The incident that happens to Julie is cathartic to her and i liked how she changed for the better.
